WASHINGTON (AP) — Two members of Congress flew unannounced into Kabul airport in the middle of the ongoing chaotic evacuation Tuesday, stunning State Department and U.S. military personnel who had to divert resources to provide security and information to the lawmakers, U.S. officials said. Rep. Seth Moulton, D-Mass., and Rep. Peter Meijer, R-Mich., flew in and out on charter aircraft and were on the ground at the Kabul airport for several hours. That led officials to complain that they could be taking seats that would have otherwise gone to other Americans or Afghans fleeing the country, but the congressmen said in a joint statement that they made sure to leave on a flight with empty seats.

“Done for show and why does any flight out have empty seats.”
Because there are more seats than Afghans to fill them.
(they gave up on Americans days ago)
The limiting factors are:
1. Not all 230 (or so) C-17’s are involved, and
2. Qatar Airport cannot alone handle all the refugees.
There may be other countries & airports receiving the refugee flights, but I haven’t seen any reports about it.
“31 Aug isn’t a “sham”, Joe doesn’t have any say in the matter, they need to talk to the Taliban. The US press for their part makes it sound like he just pulled that date out of his ass.”
I think a lot a people, even here, still don’t quite comprehend the situation there. The Taliban hold ALL THE CARDS and probably have China there advising them on how to set up shelling positions for the airport. Biden better do as they damn please, and it still doesn’t assure anything, note even getting our troops out alive.
Two blue falcons.
May the Taliban have their way with them.
Pardon my ignorance, but maybe someone can help me understand the situation. It appears many Americans can not get to the airport. That would mean that most on these flights are non-citizen. Is that correct? How are these non-citizens being vetted? What happens to the many perhaps thousand of Americans left behind?
““...why does any flight out have empty seats...”
many flights have empty seats.”
Are you paying any attention at all?
Probably because The Saigon Government lasted two years after the US withdrawal before they were defeated by the Communists, instead of lasting less than two months after our military pulled out of Afghanistan’s Bagram Airfield in the dark of night without even telling the Afghan military.
Why did they leave with empty seats, FGS?
