Fascinating. It’s almost as if the medical workers are something similar to bats which are reservoir species for many viruses.
Still much to learn on why bats can harbor the virus and not become symptomatic. Some theories are that higher metabolism due to flying allows bats to stay “just ahead” of the favorable conditions which can lead to symptomatic onset of the virus in question.
That may be true for viruses but some caves in the eastern US have padlocked entrances with bars to prevent people from going inside. The signs say it is to stop the spread of white nose disease. It is a fungus that is killing a lot of our bats.
