A team of Special Air Service soldiers who were surrounded by Taliban hordes in Kandahar have been rescued in a dramatic desert operation.
Around 20 elite SAS troops were left stranded in the province hundreds of miles from friendly forces when the militants took over.
As enemy fighters closed in they sent an SOS request to Special Forces bosses back in Britain calling for immediate extraction....

The USAF practices these types of off airport landings in the regular our Herds are just as capable of doing the same. Our CIC is a coward and refuses to send out rescue squads for our people. As was pointed out in another thread the Herc is crazy loud inside of it and it teaches us that men were not meant to ride in the sky clinging to lawn furniture.

One V22 Osprey could have handled 20 troops and a lot less conspicuous than a Herc. Does the UK have them? Maybe the 1000 mile range would have been limiting although they can be refueled in flight.
Proving again the value of the C-130 platform. We ought to give autonomy to any military units to figure out ways to neutralize the tallies and evacuated people.
