I've flown in and out of Afghanistan a few times.
I'm not a military strategist however giving up a secure airfield and controlled airspace @ Bagram was amateur hour at best. Last man out grab the flag and turn off the lights.
A sky train could have been sustained in and out of there until all who needed to leave were out.
After all, it's not as though we don't have the airlift capability...but to charge an American citizen to flee? It's not as though they're going on R&R.
