Biden's speech on Afghanistan fact-checked
BBC News ^ | August 17, 2021 | By Reality Check team

In his speech on Monday evening, President Joe Biden made a series of assertions about US policy in Afghanistan and the reasons behind his decision to withdraw forces from the country.

BBC News has fact-checked some of his claims, comparing them with his earlier statements on Afghanistan and the situation on the ground.

'Our mission in Afghanistan was never supposed to have been nation building.'

This clearly contradicts his previous positions on the US objective in Afghanistan.

At the outset of the conflict in 2001, he outlined the long-term purpose of the American military intervention, saying: "Our hope is that we will see a relatively stable government in Afghanistan, one that… provides the foundation for future reconstruction of that country."

'I know there are concerns about why we did not begin evacuating Afghan civilians sooner. Part of the answer is some of the Afghans did not want to leave earlier, still hopeful for their country.'

The rapid transfer of power to the Taliban took many Afghans by surprise, not giving them enough time to make plans to leave the country.

However, there had been high demand for a US visa programme for those facing danger in Afghanistan and the scheme was plagued by delays.

'Afghanistan's political leaders gave up and fled the country.'

President Ashraf Ghani left the country with his aides, ahead of the Taliban advance into Kabul, despite having vowed several times to remain.

But other political leaders have remained and made public statements about doing so.

'The Afghan military collapsed, some time without trying to fight.'

It's true that the collapse of Afghan forces in the final few weeks of the conflict was dramatic.

However, this has to be seen in the context of the rapid, largely uncoordinated departure of international forces from the country.

Wow, so this is what it feels like to be liberal. I was always conservative, even from birth, so it’s a new feeling to see MSM outlets actually buck the leftist narrative. Too bad it won’t last.

None of Biden's Media has fact-checked his truckload of Afghanistan manure.

I was comparing it to the Bay of Pigs yesterday morning, but only as an after thought. In reality, this was Bay of Pigs on steroids. We left the entire population high and dry. We didn’t even bother to destroy our weaponry we left behind. We just bugged out.

We will see international fallout from this. I just pray it’s not too catastrophic.

From a veteran of Afghanistan:

In a criminal lack of judgment, Joe Biden announced and began the unilateral American withdrawal at the start of the fighting season in April. Even worse, Biden planned the complete pullout during the height of the Taliban offensive in August. This meant that the most substantial change of the war, the removal of critical American support, was made at the height of the Taliban surge.

Trump took the Afghan fighting season into account.

joek? He was worrying about his next diaper change.

Biden is an INCOMPETENT BUFFOON who makes Jimmy Carter look like a genius. He and Harris OWN THIS MASSIVE DEBACLE. Thousands of Afghan women and children will be raped and murdered because of their STUPIDITY. I still can’t believe they gave up Bagram AFB (which was rock solid secure) and let 6 to 7 thousand Taliban prisoners there go free. Unbelievable and we’ll just have to fight these scum again elsewhere. 20 years, trillions spent, 2500 American brothers and sisters dead, and it all goes up in smoke in a few days because LEFTIST DEMOCRAT IDIOTS ARE MINDING THE STORE.

That being said, I always had my doubts the ANA (Afghan Army) and the ANP (Afghan Police) could make it on their own without us propping them up. Even though I worked along side them as a US Army combat Infantryman, I could NEVER TRUST OR TURN MY BACK ON THEM. After my unit left our combat outpost in NE Afghanistan in 2012, 3 US soldiers from the unit who replaced US were murdered by an ANA soldier who turned his weapon on them. Many ANA would shrink away in firefights with the Taliban. For the most part their loyalty does NOT lie with their country like here in America. The average Afghan’s loyalty lies with their TRIBE or whoever gives them their next bowl of soup. I feel the most sorry for the women and children in Afghanistan. Many of the Afghan men are depraved cowards or sexual deviants - homosexuality and pedophilia are RAMPANT among many Afghan men (look up “The Dancing Boys of Afghanistan “). I told my wife the only way I’d go back to Afghanistan would be as a Christian missionary because those people need a saving relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ above all else.

Don’t know about that. CNN seems to be tossing Biden under the bus. Bunch of Obama security advisers calling on Biden to accept blame. What’s going on isn’t normal. Old Joe is getting the Cuomo treatment.

Here is the scary part. Either his handlers are mind bogglingly stupid, or even worse, they have a nefarious motive to do it on purpose.

The mostly unconstitutional totalitarian feds, especially under the Delusional Lying Leftist Imposter in Chief is just as Melvin Udall described:

No reason or accountability.

I’m not positive, but fact-checking Biden might be considered ‘Insurrection!’. Good thing it was BBC and not a domestic outlet.
