Statement by President and Mrs. Bush on Afghanistan: "Laura and I, along with the team at the Bush Center, stand ready as Americans to lend our support and assistance in this time of need. [tr]

Laura and I have been watching the tragic events unfolding in Afghanistan with deep sadness. Our hearts are heavy for both the Afghan people who have suffered so much and for the Americans and NATO allies who have sacrificed so much.

The Afghans now at the greatest risk are the same ones who have been on the forefront of progress inside their nation. President Biden has promised to evacuate these Afghans, along with American citizens and our allies. The United States government has the legal authority to cut the red tape for refugees during urgent humanitarian crises. And we have the responsibility and the resources to secure safe passage for them now, without bureaucratic delay. Our most stalwart allies, along with private NGOs, are ready to help.

If Bush wants to do something useful he should honestly document his mistakes in Iraq and Afghanistan. He should tell how these missions ostensibly to destroy weapons of mass destruction and root out of terrorists became quagmires of “nation building” and ridiculous futile attempts to transform alien cultures. Then perhaps he might give future Presidents and leaders a proper insight on how to avoid such bad decisions. Otherwise if he , Cheney and the rest continue to deny their accountability and wrongheadiness, then the sacrifices of over 6,000 dead, thousands physically maimed and tens of thousands more psychologically harmed, not to mention their families were truly for naught.

They need to fly in to Kabul and help the Taliban hunt down Americans in hiding...

:-(

What an arrogant piece of dirt. He cause all this, now he graces us with his meaningless ramblings.

President Biden has promised to evacuate these Afghans, along with American citizens and our allies.

Note that, like Biden, his primary concern throughout the statement is the Afghans, not the Americans.

Bush goons should BURN.

“The United States government has the legal authority to cut the red tape for refugees during urgent humanitarian crises”

But we simply can’t take all oppressed or threatened people into our country, and we also can’t turn all of the bad places in the world into good places.

Perhaps the current strategy is to find excuses to fill our country with 3rd world people.

Of course not, Bush was a swamp creature, an establishment leader. His party affiliation was secondary, and more accurately he was a uniparty member.

I don’t see where you are volunteering to help at all. You just tell Biden he has to let them all in the US. We’re filled up to overflow already. Maybe that was their incentive to loose. Hey I’m going to America.

I’m sure that’s true. The allure of this place for the Russians and then us must certainly have to do with conditions outside of what is present there.
Is it weapons development, war readiness, powerful nations fighting a war are more able to influence on other fronts... or more probably just special interest lobbying for money and personal interest. Seems rhetorical to even ask the question.
