Support for the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan is falling amid widespread coverage of the Taliban's takeover of the country, according to a new poll.
The survey, conducted by Morning Consult and Politico between Aug. 13 and Aug 16, the day after the Taliban completed its takeover of Kabul, found that 49 percent of American voters support President Biden’s decision to pull troops from the region.
That is significantly down from the 69 percent who expressed support for the exit in an April survey by the same firms.
Snip
Republican support dropped to 31 percent from 52 percent, while support from independents fell from 66 percent to 41 percent.
Only 25 percent of respondents said the withdrawal was going very well or somewhat well, while 57 percent said it was not going too well or well at all.
Morning Consult and Politico surveyed 1,999 registered voters. The margin or error is plus or minus 2 percentage points.

The problem isn’t withdrawal - it’s leaving like fools with our tail between our legs, no deal made of a sane transistor and a DC elite that spends more time reading Marx than doing their jobs.

Bingo. These polls always miss key points as you point out.
I’m not sure the pollsters here are capturing the correct sentiment.
What people are—and should be—rightfully pissed about is the haphazard, bungled way the withdrawal occurred.
The middle of the night closing of Bagram Air Base, leaving behind mountains of military supplies, not waiting until Winter, when it’s impossible to fight in the mountains, just not anticipating the tribalness of Afghani’s after years of being their, and how tribes, can be bought off, coaxed and cajoled, all the intelligence and reports not read, listened to, thrown away...
Pollsters rarely ask the correct questions.
“The Shill”
And not telling the Afghans we were leaving.
“The DC elite spends more time reading Marx than doing their jobs.”
The DC elite is living in a bubble. Afghanistan Shmafganistan. What do they care? Not worth the time to pay much attention to or put much effort into understanding.
As the Wall Street Journal put it: “Biden to Afghanistan: Drop Dead.”
The things they consider important to focus on are: trans rights, wokeness, going after Trump supporters, etc. They even pressured Kabul University to open up a major in Gender Studies. That was important to them.
Funny, I could’ve sworn that when Trump was in office that many Freepers agreed with Trump and me that the Afghanistan war was a waste of time, money, and our brave soldiers’ lives. My views are exactly the same as they were before the regime change in Washington D.C.: when your war is older than some of the troops fighting it you’re doing something wrong.
Pollsters rarely ask the correct questions.

Two questions asked, choose one:
A) Do you blame Trump for 95% of this mess?
B) Do you blame Trump for 100% of this mess?
Based on centuries of history, I think the only true way to “pacify” Afghan is neutron bombs.
