The question baffling the world isn't why we left Afghanistan, but rather why we did so in the most incompetent and disastrous way possible. After 20 years of occupation, Americans were certainly amenable enough to leave, but whose idea was it to remove the military and leave our own equipment to the Taliban? To say nothing of U.S. citizens stranded?

And what better way to bring half a million refugees into the US that quickly and legally. Republicans will stay quiet out of fear of being called bigots and xenophobes. Soon they will be headed to swing states and will be told Biden (Democrats) is their savior who’s given them a new life with an accelerated path to citizenship since they came legally.
The biggest thing preventing the invocation of the 25th Amendment is that the thought of President Kamala Harris terrifies the Democrats. They can get her out of the way if she’s just the VP in 2024. But an incumbent President is almost impossible to defeat in the primaries.
I can't imagine the Chairman recommending abandoning Bagram Base to the CINC. But then again this Chairman seems to think he makes decisions about troop deployments/emploment.
At a minimum, Milley should resign. In this former military soldier's opinion this is dereliction of duty. The only safe exclave in Afghanistan that could be defended and used to move civilians and military out of country was abandoned? This is an astounding lack of military planning and judgement.
I know Milley isn't in the Chain of Command (advisor to the CINC only) but the Combatant Commander who ordered this withdrawal should face courts martial. If the CINC (Read: POTUS for you non military folks) ordered this move he should be impeached without delay.
He looked like this was the first time he was reading these lines and was having a little trouble focusing on the teleprompter.
