LANSING, Mich. (AP) — Former Detroit Police Chief James Craig on Monday called for strengthening law enforcement amid what he labeled a public safety “crisis,” announcing several moves to focus on policing while he prepares to formally run for Michigan governor.

invite local leaders to participate .... what do you do when the local leaders hate the cops?

police departments cannot recruit because of the “anti-police movement.”.... that might be one reason but it isn’t the only reason and certainly not the main one. Police recruitment has been lagging for years. Years before the riots and anti-police movements last year. Folks in their early 20s don’t want the job anymore. It’s the same for the military and firefighters. Can’t find qualified folks that want the job.

There are departments that are better than others, in different ways. Pay, pensions, culture, however you want to look at it.

All of them are dealing with retirements and the fact that cops can and will move from department to department. So, now you have agencies that were just trying to keep up with retirements.

Now, toss in the anti-cop sentiment, hipster kids tied to their iPhones, and an ever shrinking talent pool. Not a good recipe.

US Dept of Labor study found that the number of qualified and willing applicants for the police, fire and military, decreases by 5% every year and that has been going on for years.

I find this redundant, A person is going to gather a group of people to try to create laws to stop the spike in criminality so people that didn’t follow the current laws can disobey them also while the city doesn’t have the cops to enforce the ones they have now and call this a progressive and workable solution?
