Leaders of Afghanistan, who have India’s backing and who fought the Taliban between 1996 and 2001 as members of the Northern Alliance, have shown some signs of initial resistance amid the Taliban’s surge.
While former Herat strongman Ismail Khan, now in his 70s, is planning to regroup to fight the Taliban, dozens of fighters have pledged loyalty to former vice-president Marshal Abdul Rashid Dostum in the northern provinces against the Taliban, ET has gathered.

Wonder what Putin and Uzbek/Tajik/Turkmen/Kazakh leaders are thinking.
I assume they all have AK-47s. Then they should be set.
We give you weapons and then you turn around and shoot us...........................
How long before the Taliban go back to fighting each other without the dreaded foreigners being their to unite them? Inside a year they’ll be shooting each other...they have the arms to do it.
Nah. It’s that there are a bunch of tribes in Afghanistan. Pashtuns support the Taliban. Other tribes hate the Taliban. We were fools to support the Pashtuns because we believed that we could get them to stop supporting the Taliban.
I think that those were probably Pashtun members of the Afghan army. The Northern Alliance is mostly non Pashtun.
Honestly. I bet Russia will save Afghanistan. Didnt they semi-save Syria or was it all bad I don’t know,
There’s “Pledging Forever!”
and there’s “Fighting, right here, right now!”
The Taliban seemed to be ready + willing NOW.
Where were these resistance leaders earlier today?

CNN: In Massive Blow, Taliban Detain Warlord Ismail Khan. What Impact Will it Have on War-Torn Afghanistan
as for Dostun, he isn’t well and is in Turkey. Taliban went through his home yesterday - don’t know if they ransacked it - and I can’t imagine Dostun returning.
They were disarmed and/or folded into Afghan army, by our stupid, nation building politicians. We have basically betrayed them. I hope they will regroup and start again.
Thanks for explaining. I had stopped keeping a close eye on the Afghan situation many years ago. I could see we were spinning our wheels in the mud and would be for a while until someone had the courage to say ‘that’s enough!’
The good news is the tribes don’t like each other and the people don’t care for the extremes of the Taliban. So, give it a bit and the internal shooting will start.
I would think, they are afraid of Taliban spreading into the neighborhood and, especially the Tajiks and Uzbeks may be supportive to their compatriots in Afghanistan.
Russians were supporting the Northern Alliance before US got involved. I do not see any reason that would change now.
But, I really have no insight info, it is my wild guess.
Sorry raghead, ask the Russians for arms.
Hate to see them go to waste.
“Russia has tons of AK-47s, ammo and RPGs in ware houses going to waste.”
If they don’t have enough Remington can make them some more./sarc
The new company is RemArms I think.
Word getting around the Taliban bribed their way to control. They bought off most towns which explains the speed of their penetration.
Pakistan ISI had a hand in but did the ChiComs bankroll it?
Stay tuned.
