US Secretary of State Antony Blinken spoke with Afghan President Ashraf Ghani Saturday as the security situation continues to deteriorate in the country.

In a statement released by the State Department, the two “discussed the urgency of ongoing diplomatic and political efforts to reduce the violence” in Afghanistan and Blinken “emphasized the United States’ commitment to a strong diplomatic and security relationship with the Government of Afghanistan and our continuing support for the people of Afghanistan.”

Karzai did have a restaurant in the US.

Reminds me of a Seinfeld episode.

There is no Afghanistan president. The Taliban is the new government. The US State Department is a collection of clowns.

“What we are seeing is a willful act of destruction by the Biden Admin.”

Or an incompetent POS. The videos of Xiden saying how strong the Afghan-banana-stand government was to maintain control (<40 days ago) are out there for all to see. Of course the GOPe would never use them, b/c they are too busy sending out RNC letters begging for $$$ so they can beat the evil deonkkkraps, whom they support.

The restaurant in Cambridge was called Helmand, and I’m sure it was owned by Karzai or a relative.

The most memorable thing about dining there was the all-Afghan staff would serve wine to my sons at ages 12 and 16 if I asked for it, since to defy a father at his table was unthinkable.

to keep the Taliban savages from their depredations against the Afghan people

Pro tip: The Taliban savages ARE the Afghan people.

Maybe the absolutely stupidest part of our Afghanistan disaster:

Abandoning Bagram AFB in the dark of night, with no notice to the ANA, so that we now have no way to stage and fly tactical missions into and out of A-stan, other than from Kabul Int'l Airport (now jammed full of evacuees and civilian refugees.)

If we still had Bagram, we could use it to handle tactical fighters and troop transports, enough to keep the Taliban at bay until we evacuated Kabul. Taking off, reloading and landing at Bagram, instead of hours and hours away.

Without Bagram AFB, we are reduced to flying tactical missions from very long range. This gives the Taliban an immense OODA loop advantage. The Taliban now has local air assets (ex Russian Hips, ex U.S. Blackhawks), artillery up to 155mm howitzers, etc. This means they can move troops and artillery around much faster than we can respond with air missions from approx. 1,000 miles away.

Now, the Taliban can shut down Kabul Intl' anytime they choose, using local forces under their control. We are 100% at their mercy. A total debacle. Every general involved should be busted to private and then fired without a pension.

Or shot.

HA! I said this in the AM. That I wouldn’t be surprised if Biden’s handlers created a situation to add 2,000-3,000 troops to the original 3,000. Now he has announced 5,000 troops heading to Kabul. By next week it will be 10,000.

Yep - but our military has been occupied with rooting out white supremacy - no time to form an Afghanistan exit strategy

This has to be willful sabotage to enable a Taliban takeover to pave the way for a Pakisatan/China hegemony in Afghanistan

Even the rawest recruit could predict the disastrous consequences of this act of military malpractice and betrayal.

The only possible explanation for this that the Biden Admin wanted exactly the outcome we are experiencing and wanted America to be humiliated and our military and diplomatic credibility and good will to ruined world wide.

The only miscalculation the Biden dirt bags made in this disgrace was the calculation they cram this cluster f**k down the throats of the American people without any blow back.

They over reached and miscalculated on that one and now they are trying to do damage control to save their sorry asses The entire Joint Chiefs of Staff should be sacked starting with Milley and everyone in the decision making loop should be court martial ed and either spend the rest of their lives in Leavenworth or face a firing squad.

My preferred choice would be to give each of several hundred of the soldiers who suffered under these Obama Generals and their destructive and demoralizing ROEs 5 minutes free time with each of these scum bags who shaved points and threw the game to the Taliban in Afghanistan.

There simply is no other explanation. Under the circumstances the entire Joint Chiefs should have resigned in protest weeks ago if they were not complicit.

Instead, Milley testified in front of Congress about trying to understand "white rage" . Anyone, white or black or whatever shade should be filled with rage at the actions of the feckless and profoundly destructive leadership we are seeing come out of Washington

Of course, this staggering military incompetence, bred of 20 years of lies, mostly in service of career advancement, should be punished.

But don’t think it’s only the military. Apartment buildings and bridges are collapsing for want of honest inspections. Tunnels leak. Academic tests are fraudulent.

And in my own field - there’s the CDC.

We have big big problems across the board.

What a farce. There was no real Afghan government. It was a corrupt puppet regime that only lasted as long as we propped it up. The Afghan army was a joke, too.
