The Taliban are advancing across Afghanistan as the US withdraws, but the US military is continuing to conduct airstrikes, often to destroy military equipment captured by the Taliban, NBC News reported Thursday, citing a US defense official.
It was first reported in late July that the US military was launching strikes targeting "captured military equipment that the Taliban [were] able to seize from the" Afghan National Defense and Security Forces. Such strikes have continued as the Taliban gains ground.
NBC reported that the US military is conducting one to five strikes a day, typically with drones, with most of the airstrikes intended to destroy equipment, including weapons and supplies provided by the US, captured from Afghan military and police.
The airstrikes have taken out a number of artillery pieces and tanks, as well as Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected vehicles and Humvees, a defense official told NBC.

We didn’t “capture” any USD military equipment or weapons, we bought them fair and square, see Hunter Biden he handled the sale.
The Taliban
yes, and our top generals are now social engineers trying to feminize the armed forces and convert them to girly men.
Obviously, the new woke Pentagon has no idea WTF is going on.They don’t even know how to retreat and fold the flag one last time.
I bet the Taliban are not wearing masks
With the possible exception of the fraction of his voters that were actual people.
At least biden doesn't send mean tweets...
...come to think of it, does he even know how to send a tweet?
He made the same boner mistake Obama did by announcing in advance the date the US would be pulling out of Afghanistan so the enemy, the Taliban, would know when to start their offensive.
What A Phuquing Idiot. Why not just give them engraved invitations?
Deciding to pull out is one thing, but announcing to the enemy your strategic plans AND the date certain, is a military blunder.
This is why you don't have an amateur calling the shots.
Destroying a few billion dollars worth of equipment is nothing compared to the trillion already wasted there.
Besides it allows Pentagon brass to do what they do best: go shopping with military contractors, friends, the wife, with lobbyists trailing behind tossing wads of cash and perks.
The fact we can’t win against a stone age hellhole tells us more about OUR culture than about theirs... and more about our generals and ‘intelligence’ than theirs.
They took over the government a long time ago. They just kept their mouths shut.
As for the airstrikes, in late 2001 and into 2002, they wouldn’t pop their heads out, knowing that a laser guided bomb was coming their way
Drones and the guided munitions they carry can do this all day, everyday. Blow up everything.
At some point tell the Taliban that it would be in their best interest to park them all in spot and walk away. Then drop about 10 2000lb JDAMs on them and let the Taliban go back to Hilux’s.
And if one or two 2000lb’ers landed on the Hilux’s…..my bad.
He also said he just got his butt wiped. 😐
Debate all you want about was right right to stay or go, I want to know why we didn't take our equipment with us when we left or put it in a pile and blow it up with the mother of all bombs.
Either Military Intelligence is an oxymoron or this is something sinister.

Recognize this iconography?
(I posted the comments above here yesterday:)
Rep. Matt Gaetz: Biden is right to get the hell out of Afghanistan
So, Biden is sending thousands of troops back into Afghanistan after withdrawing them. We are also conducting airstrikes.
We are NOT withdrawing from Afghanistan. This 20-year war will become a Hundred Years War.
Where are the A10s?
It’s all irrelevant. About half the motor pool we turned over is not operational anyway because required maintenance is only at about 21%.
Illiteracy is so endemic, that whan the officers bug out, there is no one left to maintain the fleet.
We set up 15 maintenance centers with no manuals, all internet driven videos, no reading needed.....13 of those centers had no internet connection. No training could be done. That was the brainchild of Senator Richard Blumenthal (D, Connecticut).
Most of the motor pool will be out of service within 3 months.
Likely the armament will get stripped off and mounted on pickups anyway.
Besides, all those vehicles have an electronic signature that can easily be ID’d by drones.....
So how much embezzlement with this give cover for?
Queue Jon Lovitz: “Ya’ we gave them 500 tanks full of money to bribe locals and then we had to destroy them all! Nothing but pieces left, money all burned, honest! Ya’ that’s the ticket!”
