Yeh, he stood alone, virtually held the UK together against the Nazis during the dark days prior to Dec 7th, 1941. He was a colonialist and wanted to hold the empire together after WWII but Rosevelt insisted that the British colonies be granted independence. He reluctantly went along with it and and ndependence movement happened peacefully, especially India.
But I suppose not in the sense how the UK is being colonized today...
