Tropical Storm Fred developed in the Eastern Caribbean Sea. Tropical storm conditions are expected in portions of Puerto Rico Tuesday night, and in the Dominican Republic by Wednesday. The tall mountains of Hispaniola are expected to cause storm weakening. Interests in the southern Bahamas and Florida should monitor updates to the forecast for this system, but it is too soon to determine what if any impacts could occur there by late this week or this weekend given the uncertainty in the long-range forecast.

Thanks for your expertise — the one behind it bothers me a little more than Fred — what is you thought?

Tropical wave Invest 95L has a 30% chance of development over the next five days. Far too soon to tell if it will be a threat to U.S. interests.

It is a race between storm names and Covid variants—who can get to the end of the alphabet first?

The name “Fred” does not, in and of itself inspire fear, shock or awe. Fred sounds like everybody’s brother in law or friendly neighbor or the Cable Guy.
Even using the Italian version of “Federico” would lift more eyebrows, more blood pressure counts.

They are naming every flipping sneeze !Pikachu_Dad's Corollary of Tropical Storms: If it isn't a Category 5 hurricane aimed directly at the fragile Louisiana coast, then it must be a flipping sneeze.

A frequent discussion topic on these threads bemoans the number of inoperable buoys in a perpetual state of disrepair.

So do watch out if you produce a major flatus event. They might start naming them.

Yes. I am embarrassed by the name of this storm on behalf of my cousin Fred. He’s the guy who shows up to help put the deck out back and shows up with a box of pretzels and some beer.

I’m pretty sick of them. We’re getting more and more in Florida. They used to go up the Atlantic coast. Now they all go to the gulf and cause havoc.
