For many people who contract mild, moderate, or severe COVID-19, the disease's effects don't disappear when the infection fades. A systematic review and meta-analysis published Monday to the journal Scientific Reports found that 80% of cases result in at least one long-term symptom.
The authors of the report scoured more than 18,000 publications, seeking studies assessing the long-term effects of COVID-19 with at least 100 subjects. They found fifteen studies, which collectively followed 47,910 patients for as long as 110 days post-infection. They then pooled the data to discern the prevalence of chronic side effects.
"The five most common symptoms were fatigue (58%), headache (44%), attention disorder (27%), hair loss (25%), and dyspnea [difficult breathing] (24%)," the reviewers reported.
In total, they turned up 55 potential long-term symptoms. Other notable chronic effects included loss of taste (reported in 23% of cases), loss of smell (21%), cough (19%), sweating (17%), and hearing loss (15%).

Unfortunately, none of the studies included in the review were stratified by disease severity, so we don't know for sure if worse disease exacerbates long-term symptoms, though it seems likely.
"The results assessed in the present study are in line with the current scientific knowledge on other coronaviruses, such as those producing SARS and MERS," the authors wrote. "For example, studies on SARS survivors have shown lung abnormalities months after infection."
The authors also noted that the effects of long-term COVID-19 partly resemble those of chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), a nebulous, controversial diagnosis that currently lacks an established cause. CFS sufferers are plagued by "severe incapacitating fatigue, pain, neurocognitive disability, compromised sleep... and worsening of global symptoms following minor increases in physical and/or cognitive activity," the reviewers described….
…"Given that COVID-19 is a new disease, it is impossible to determine how long these effects will last,"…

Hmmm..
I hear EARLY, safe and EFFECTIVE treatment is the key.
Good luck!
Had Covid in May and took ivermectin. Was already taking 10,000 iu of D3, 2000 mg C and 50 gm zinc.
I am 74 and since Covid my wife and I have sex twice per week and my golf handicap has dropped to single digits. oorah!
My wife had no treatment of any kind beyond OTC meds & keeping her hydrated. No hospitalization in her case.
I also forgot to mention i was taking C-3000mg, D3-6000mg, zinc-100mg, oregano oil drops into water 1-2x a day (1/2 to 3/4 dropper full, just read directions say 2 drops are 50 mg of oregano oil (p73 whatever that means)), raw garlic 3 or more cloves per day added to soups i was eating.
Did they list ‘drippy dick’ as a long-term effect? Asking for a friend..
Weirdly enough, I lost my sense of taste and smell for only about four days and was losing alot of hair once I got home from the hospital but that abated after 2-3 weeks.
I do find that I have to concentrate on tasks at work harder than before and really have to buckle down to get stuff done without distracting myself, something I never had a problem with before.
And yes proust, Wuhan should be a smoking crater.
Glassed over

Damn… do you know what variant it was? I may have to get some of that. 🤗🤗
Left my brother-in-law with afib.
I lost my smell for almost 6 months but it’s back now. It was nice when I hiked and couldn’t smell anything in the outhouses.
Thanks for posting this. People who harp on Covid’s low case fatality rate ignore that Covid can do plenty of long term harm without killing.
“Hair loss? I must have had a really bad case of covid”.
Lol Me, too....about 40 years ago.
Is 110 days really long term?
Wait a minute! Hair loss!
So true
Science.
Wait a second, I just read the excerpt again. 17% of those infected with The ‘Rona will sweat. Holy Moly. Those people actually sweat. What did they do before to maintain the temperatures of their bodies? PAnt like a dog?
Yeah, probably the worst symptom of Covid during the first 2 weeks was the coughing. I couldn’t talk without severe and violent coughing. That coupled with a fever that consistently stayed between 100.5 - 101.9 eventually peaking at 102.7 the coughing was only bearable after chugging dayquil during the day, and a night time formula cough medicine at night, as well as eating a ton of cough drops. I was basically bed ridden and only got up to use the bathroom which after the first 2 days, turned into chronic diarrhea, despite drinking plenty of fluids. Just getting up took all my energy. By day 5 i wasn’t improving so i went to hospital.
Have any been vax’d?
A good friend of mine got china flu and is fully vax’d.
She is doing much better after FINALLY getting Ivermectin treatment. (Started taking a couple of days after first symptoms/diagnosis).
