Nearly two dozen Democratic lawmakers sued Gov. Greg Abbott and other state GOP leaders – claiming efforts to bring them back to Austin for a special session violated their rights.

The 22 members of the Texas House, who’d skipped town to avoid a vote on a controversial election reform bill, claim the Saturday special session infringed on their constitutional rights to free speech.

Abbott called for the arrest of more than 50 Democrats that flew to Washington, DC, to block the passage of a bill that they said would restrict access to the polls, according to The Texas Tribune.

They’re suing Governor Abbott because Abbott is keeping them away from their families. Yes, it’s the same Governor Abbott who has ordered them to return to Texas where their families live.

DemocRATS obviously can’t recognize IRONY.

Repubs need to start suing dems for EVERYTHING. Start with doing the moratorium on evictions and the border.

Who is the aggrieved party here. Governor Abbot should declare the seats these representatives had been elected to as empty, and order a new election in each of these districts.

If they cannot or will not fulfill the responsibilities of their elected office, they are badly serving the voters of their districts. It is the VOTERS whom they are supposed to represent that are the aggrieved parties, not the elective representative.

I can’t believe a court would accept such nonsense.

Fugitives from justice have no “right” to escape justice. There is a clear Texas law. They were or are fugitives by their own free will.

GOP should file a couple of dozen suits against the legislators as individuals, and seek to recoup all the associated costs of their chicanery. As well as charging them with insurrection, attempting to subvert the will of the people, and nonfeasance.

“The plaintiffs were “deprived of liberty for substantial periods of time, suffered much anxiety and distress over separation from their families, and much discomfort and embarrassment,” the lawsuit reportedly alleged.”

i thought they did this to themselves ... i had no idea that the Gov kicked ‘em out of Texas ...
