The root of irrationality is discarding science, or choosing some portion of science and ignoring the rest. What you are talking about is claims of "truth". Any claim of truth is by definition unscientific.
Yes, vaccines generally don't work well against RNA viruses. The scientific question is whether the current vaccines are better than nothing or worse than nothing. There are good arguments for both, but mostly what I read is bad arguments (ill-founded speculative innuendo, or based on weak data like the low numbers in the vaccine trials).
My gut on vaccines is that they are not a bad idea its just that a good vaccine like the kind Jonas Salk came up with for polio takes time to perfect.
