Conflict remains among several countries over claims of the South China Sea. As tensions remain high, an expert has warned that China is already preparing itself for a possible military conflict and a possible military takeover of Taiwan.
University of Nottingham political scientist and China expert Dr. Jonathan Sullivan warned that China is already flexing the military muscle of the People’s Liberation Army so it can be able to launch a military takeover of Taiwan. China has insisted on having sovereignty over the island nation, despite Taiwan being a democratically-run nation for some time. The Taiwanese government has also openly defied China’s insistence, and Beijing has already looked into a possible forced takeover of the island nation in an effort to reunify Taiwan with the mainland.
“The Communist regime is obviously heavily invested in ‘recovering’ Taiwan, but it also acknowledges the above risks and so is unlikely to invade unless it feels there is no other option to prevent ‘Taiwan independence,’” said Dr. Sullivan. “In recent years it has ratcheted up the pressure on Taiwan and bellicose rhetoric and is busily readying itself through military modernization to be in a position to credibly take Taiwan.”

Yeah, because no major military power ever tried to upgrade its equipment in the past without inevitably leading to war, right?
Wrong.
I don’t like China one bit, however I don’t think they would start a regional or global war. Any idiot can see what the end result of that would be. They are clearly trying to expand their influence and advantages along non-military lines, for example, this COVID19 business, the belt and road strategy, selected aggressions meant to weaken specific adversaries.
Nor would total war with China be a terrible outcome because sooner or later, an evil that massive has to be taken down.
The Chinese think if they ‘recovered Taiwan’ they would have Taiwan... and for a year or two they might be right...
But after that China would just have another piece of the same crappy hellhole China is now. All the creativity and freshness of Taiwan would become the drab totalitarian crap we see in China. There’s no escaping the ugly truth: they ARE the hellhole. Where ever Chinese thugs go becomes the hellhole.
So yeah China - you’d get ‘the land’ and some modern factories ... and in a few years they’d be crap.
PING!
If you were China and wanted to do some dirty globalizing, would you do it while a weak senile piece of flesh was at the helm.. the one they gave millions to...
Or wait for Trump to be the President again.
Why bother to fight a war, when it is so easdy to bribe the leadership of other countries?
“All the creativity and freshness of Taiwan would become the drab totalitarian crap we see in China.”
I don’t like their political system or the way they often treat citizens but the modern big cities are anything but drab. World-leading glitz, in fact.
Maybe they should bloody their PLA troops on the Indians ... well that did not work out too well.
And war, on the scale they are said to be contemplating, would destabilize China - its not like the old days. There nothing the CCP would like less than civil unrest because they stupidly began a war. All fingers would be pointing to Xi Jinping.
” I don’t think they would start a regional or global war. Any idiot can see what the end result of that would be. “
Their official and unofficial organs say otherwise.
Why do you believe your above assertion, rather than the nation’s own stated intent?
Taiwan is the real legit rulers of China. In fact, the mainland belongs to Taiwan.
Taiwan should demand the expulsion of the CCP from China. The CCP are the occupiers and need to be removed from China. Force the CCP back into Manchuria/Russia where they came from.

Multiple atolls taken over by china for military use.
No doubt well defended but basically sitting ducks.
Wow, there’s a revelation. I guess only the leftists in the US use the military as a social experiment. Other Countries, yeah, they modernize in order to prepare to use their military forces as, well military forces. Not nation builders, not emissaries, but to achieve goals through the application of violence or the credible threat of violence.
I’ve yet to see any evidence that the ChiComm “supermen” have the logistical capability to carry out an invasion of Taiwan.
I won’t even get into the military capability of these same ChiComms to engage in battle, after seeing Indian Gurkhas annihilate a ChiComm “superman” platoon at Ladakh last summer.
But do continue building the China-is-superman paper tiger.
I was aware of that but always took it to be bluster, like things people say that they won’t have to back up at some later time, example, NK at the UN “we will destroy you” sort of talk. Plays well with the partisans but does not have to be verified. Also may represent a wish rather than a plan.
At the actual time people had to decide whether to risk all out war, they would back down, realizing the consequences.
This gives a somewhat fuller explanation of my point of view, right or wrong. It could only be proven wrong by their initiation of all out war so we’ll just have to wait and see.
