The results described here therefore demonstrate the diminishing protection offered by COVID-19 vaccines over time from when the individual received their second dose. This study also provides information on the protection offered by the BNT162b2 vaccine against the SARS-CoV-2 Delta strain that is now dominant worldwide.

They have known this all along. It is the reason why they made it a 2-shot regimen spaced 4 weeks apart, and the reason they have been talking about booster shots since before these vaccines were released to the public. The efficacy of the first dose fades from 95% to the 60% range in 5 weeks. The efficacy of the 2nd dose fades in about 10 weeks down to about 40% in 3-4 months.
Among the elderly, people over 80, the vaccines are probably only 60% effective across the population at large simply due to declining immune systems that happens with old age. Not all people, but about 40% of them derive little benefit at all from vaccines.
The same is true for the seasonal vaccine.

How many of these people who tested positive showed symptoms of Covid-19 and how many were or had been hospitalized?
