That’s not what ADE is.
Antibody Dependent Enhancement is when sub-optimal antibodies are created which assist the pathogen in infection rather than neutralizing it. This is common with Dengue fever infections. The Dengue virus has 5 serotypes. When someone is infected with one serotype, the body produces antibodies against it as part of the immune response. If the person is later infected with another serotype, the body can easily mistake it for the first and produce antibodies that bind in such a way that the infection is accelerated rather than halted. This then creates a more serious infection with a generally worse outcome (not necessarily death, but more severe illness at least).
It has nothing to do with “teaching your body to create a virus that your immune system ignores”. That’s nonsense. Nor is it “a well-known infectious process that can allow otherwise inert varieties if a virus to become invasive of the cell”. It only applies to infectious pathogens. It doesn’t suddenly turn nothing into something. It simply opens up new pathways for a virus to increase infectiousness inside the body and target cells which would normally destroy it via immune cell receptors and complement proteins.
You’re being picayune. It’s as if there’s a new virus in that it can now infect you. Go to the link below and watch the vid with the virus guy. He tries to translate, tucker tries to put it in vernacular. We all do it. Professional language from any profession isn’t perfect when it gets translated into everyday language.
