GUATEMALA CITY, Aug 4 (Reuters) - Guatemala has begun to receive flights of undocumented migrants sent back from the United States under a new policy allowing fast-track expulsions for some families at the U.S.-Mexico border, Guatemalan and U.S. authorities said on Wednesday.
The measure announced by U.S. officials last week, called "expedited removal," applies to families that have not sought U.S. asylum or who do not qualify, and comes as border arrests in recent months have risen to 20-year highs....
...President Joe Biden's administration has said it is working on offering more ways for Central American migrants to legally enter the United States.

This smells. Why are they escalating some removals while also escalating the inflow of illegal migration?
The removed illegals must have failed some political purity test.
Not sure about that, but spoke with a deputy yesterday who is moonlighting as a contractor for ICE and she said that she has been escorting more Guatemalans to the tarmac than any other nationality for the last month or so. She also said it’s extremely secretive, she’s told to report to a location, is given an envelope on where to meet the “migrants“, given a second envelope at that location on where to take them. Sometimes it’s to a flight home, sometimes it’s to a “helping organization“. She said there doesn’t appear to be any rhyme or reason.
Didn't utter any words that amount to "persecuted" back home, or seeking asylum.
Likely luck of the draw, getting a border agent who is strict, vs. one who does more coaching on what to say. as with all government, results are inconsistent and variable.
