US Covid-19 hospitalizations top 50,000 for first time since February.
The U.S. has donated and shipped more than 110 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines to more than 60 countries, ranging from Afghanistan to Zambia.
Like the Delta variant, Lambda (C.37, the Peruvian variant) is highly transmissible but Japanese researchers believe that three mutations in the variant's spike proteins - called RSYLTPGD246-253N, 260 L452Q and F490S - make it more resistant to antibodies induced by vaccination. Two further mutations—T76I and L452Q—that make the Lambda variant highly infectious. Researchers at the University of Tokyo published their paper at bioRxiv, last Wednesday (28 July) ahead of the paper's peer review. Lambda is the dominant strain of the virus in Peru, and it has been reported in 29 countries, including the U.S. Only 1,037 cases of Lambda have been detected in the U.S so far. Delta is also more immune evasive than the original strain, but more infectious than Lambda.
Tyson Foods Mandates COVID Vaccine for U.S. Employees, But About Half Already Have Shot.
Microsoft said Tuesday (3 Aug) that employees, vendors and guests entering Microsoft's buildings in the US will be required to show proof of vaccination beginning in September.
The Pentagon appears poised to mandate vaccinations for COVID-19. Officials tell Reuters a decision on next steps could come within days. Around half the U.S. Armed Forces are already fully vaccinated, a number that climbs significantly when counting only active duty troops and excluding National Guard and Reserve members. Vaccination rates are highest in the Navy, which suffered from a high-profile outbreak last year aboard an aircraft carrier. About 73% of sailors are fully vaccinated. Biden could issue a waiver requiring troops to get vaccinated prior to formal vaccine approval by the FDA.
In a first for the United States - New York City will start requiring requiring proof of vaccination for some indoor indoor activities including indoor dining, gyms and entertainment.
Biden has extended Trump's Title 42 policy, which allows border authorities to expel illegals (single adults, and some families) back to Mexico or their home countries without giving them the chance to apply for humanitarian refuge, if they create a "serious danger" of the further introduction of COVID-19. Suspiciously, Mexico just days ago announced that they will no longer accept back any non-Mexicans, that cross into the USA from Mexico. The flow of illegal immigrants is now hitting record highs.
Still not me............EVER!
If Delta is different, it’s the spike, right?
When does the vax cover Delta?
No Trump, so “Sub Light”?
Some good news from Colorado.
7 day average death number was 5 yesterday.
To find a 7 day average of 4, I had to go back to November 1, 2020.
The flow of illegal immigrants is now hitting record highs.
Border surge —> virus surge
And in the most significant news of the day there is now an EUA for. knickknack antibody infusion for post exposure prophylaxis
oh my. love autocorrect. for monoclonal antibody infusion should be
Haha...wondered if you were playing word games or what!
Well, it looks like my observation yesterday that some states ceased their daily case rate climb was merely a weekend/Monday reporting artifact. Today’s report showed that all those states are actually continuing their rapid daily case count increases.
siri does not like medical terms
I like KnickKnack better than trying to say “Bamlanivimab”.
Question: as a practical matter, how is the FDA’s limitation of allowing REGEN-COV to those patients “who are at high risk for progression to severe COVID-19”
Is that left to clinical judgement, or are prescribers having to justify its use?
Thank you for the update.
it’s left to clinical judgement
why did biden exempt all postal employees from his federal government employee vaccine mandate?...
At least it screws it up in a nice way like knickknack… 😀
“I like KnickKnack better than trying to say “Bamlanivimab”.”
Maybe you have stated a trend.
It does have a nice ring to it.
I’m all for it!
“why did biden exempt all postal employees from his federal government employee vaccine mandate?”
Union payoff?
Well, that’s good, finally.
That’s what came to my mind as a first guess also…
