It seems each year climatic hazards — most acutely hurricanes here in the United States — are becoming more intense and more destructive.

What an awesomely scientifical article this is! Every year NOAA predicts a coming heavy hurricane season. But every month, they "adjust" their prediction downward as the number and intensity of the hurricanes disappoints them.

At the end of hurricane season, their monthly adjustments are complete, and their "prediction" exactly matches the result. Because they're very good at what they do.
