Singapore has been sending teams of enforcement officers into people’s homes — without warrants or warning — to check they are abiding by social-distancing rules that only allow two visitors, according to reports.
Actor Nick Mikhail highlighted the searches by sharing surveillance footage showing six officers — including three uniformed cops — in his home speaking to his wife, who was home alone at the time, he said.
“Came in without [a] warrant,” he captioned the clip, saying he had sent the footage to his lawyer.
Amid outrage, Singapore’s Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) confirmed to Channel News Asia that officers had visited the house over “repeated complaints” from neighbors that people in the area had been “having gatherings with more than the permitted number of visitors.”
“Safe-distancing enforcement officers are empowered to enter, inspect and search various premises, including residences, without a warrant, to check whether the COVID-19 regulations are being complied with,” the agency insisted.
Singapore is under “heightened alert” from the pandemic with social gatherings limited to two people, and only two visitors allowed in each house in one day, The Straits Times has said.
In an update, Mikhail confirmed that he had been told that “they can come, they can enter” — but was angry that a male officer had at one point been alone with his wife out of camera view.
“They should have a female officer to be with my wife all the time,” he complained.

Had a Spanish student live with us when we were in college. They were astounded how our doors were so flimsy. Apparently in Spain and other parts of Europe, their doors are practically armored to prevent forced entry. Maybe a lesson we should consider?
The hospitals in Singapore have had more than a year to prepare for any “variant.”
There is no justification for these home invasions.
I am not familiar with the law in Singapore but it’s a mistake to assume that every country requires a warrant before police can enter a home. Most don’t. I get annoyed by Americans who travel abroad assuming that they carry the protection of our Bill of Rights around with them, then get all indignant when they find out they are subject to whatever crazy laws they run afoul of in another country.

Out of curiosity, does Singapore have a, Bill of Rights and a 4th Amendment?
If so, then this is a story. Not that big of one, since so many folks in this country have a very unfounded belief that every other country on the planet operates the same way the US does. And that couldn’t be further from the truth.
If they don’t, then this is definitely NOT a story. Just something to stir up emotions, as if stirring up emotions is needed these days.
The US does have the 2nd Amendment and, for the most part, it does NOT matter. And, about 99% of law abiding people in this country will not exercise that right, when the police come knocking. Law enforcement will do what it wants and you will do nothing about it.
I’d say, ask Jose Guerena, but you can’t. And I used to do these types of warrants for drugs, guns and fugitives...

“Warrant? We don’ need no steenkin’ warrant!”
Not much protections. I worked there for years. They can come around and check yards and areas for standing water, ie pots because of malaria, zika and dengue via ‘mozzies’. That’s just a basic police state ability they have.
Only two visitors allowed, but, apparently, six cops are OK.....
Singapore has very strict laws overall in their city. There’s a few videos about how they keep things under their control there and it appears the people don’t mind.
When you write things like that, you need to use the word "we" in place of "you". Because you personally are included in the group that will do nothing when you use the word "we". You aren't going to do anything, right?
Don’t know. It I’m also not one to sit at my keyboard sati g what I all do if they come knocking.
2nd Amendment….‘war cry’…..my cold dead hands….the country is being robbed right in front of our faces in an hourly fashion…..law enforcement is dutifully carrying out the wishes of our elected representatives who do nothing…..and we do nothing.
I’m guilty too. I know.
Oh, hello Boris (not you, qaz123).
I can agree with all of that.
You should skip over the post following yours.
People should post signs saying that they are social distancing from enforcement officers.
