But now that I've retired to Florida, the opposite is true. Lowes is much better at keeping inventory of what I need and having associates to help when I'm looking for someone to assist me.
Lowes also give a 10% discount to military veterans, no questions asked. They always thank me for my service.
Home Depot, on the other hand, reluctantly only gives their discount if you argue with them. The optics is real clear. I almost have to beg them for the discount.
I should say, I used to almost beg them for the discount, because I haven't shopped there in a couple of years.
Lowes may require masks again but they are not hard-core about enforcing it. That works for me since I don't wear a mask.
Top Biden scientists says masks do not work...
First of all, thank you for your service.
I stopped going to HD when they stopped giving me the 5% Lowes match when I used my HD credit card.
Now, the only time I go there is when they send me a 10% coupon in the mail. The last time I was there was when the mulch was on sale for $2/bag. I bought 3 pickup truck loads with the additional 10% coupon on top of their sale price.
This makes it cheaper than buying it loose in bunk from the local landscape supply companies.
It’s totally local. Here I show my VA card at ace and HD and get the rate with no hassle. Over 500 and HD needs a manager to approve.
Lowes makes it super simple with their system for veterans and spouses can get the discount too. Homedepot makes it almost impossible and restricts it to certain times a year. Last time I looked you had to be actively serving as well.

Not true of any Home Depot I’ve been in here in the Houston area. I just show them my VA ID, and they take the 10% off, no questions. Most times, I just say, I’m a Navy veteran, and I don’t have to show the ID.
