My fam was down in the FL Keys for July from Atlanta. I invited my 80 year old dad (Ft. Lauderdale) down for 5 days last week to fish.
He got on the whole Jan 6 thing. I don’t know where he gets his info, but he told me that Trump tried to overthrow the USA gov’t. He said that Trump supporters stormed the capital with weapons.
So I asked him to take his time on my computer, and find me the name of one person arrested on weapons charges, or on charges of assault with a weapon. Of course none.
But — here is where it got interesting. I tried comparing the Jan 6 stuff with the violence last summer where they surrounded the White House and burned the cathedral.
1) He didn’t believe that happened.
2) He said if it did happen, it was Proud Boys infiltrating the peaceful protests to make them look bad.
Aha! Well Dad, isn’t it possible the Jan 6 riots were infiltrated by Antifa too? Nope.
My son and I were astounded by the selective reasoning. I’ve always known he was a devout socialist/leftist, but the lack of fair thinking was disgusting.
Oh my. I have had the same conversation with my father in law. He gets so mad that he jumps out of his chair screaming profanity all the way to his bedroom. Funny thing is his son and daughter, my wife, are the two that get him going. I just sit back and smile.
