55mph was a great revenue enhancer for a lot of states.
Unfortunately I lived in Ohio then and the enforcement was rigorous.
I was in the dark and fascist Peoples Republik of Neu Joisey. You think that Ohio enforcement was rigorous? PFFT! Oh, and the only safe direction to go (for a while) if you were trying to escape to freedom (even if only for an afternoon) was PA - everything north and south was at least as bad, especially in Maryland.
Damn, that brings back some bad memories...though I regularly purge them while going 90 in an 80 zone here in TX. :>)
