Pfizer Inc and Moderna Inc have raised the prices of their COVID-19 vaccines in their latest European Union supply contracts, the Financial Times reported on Sunday.

The new price for the Pfizer shot was 19.50 euros (US$23.15 ) against 15.50 euros previously, the newspaper said, citing portions of the contracts seen.

The price of a Moderna vaccine was $25.50 a dose, the contracts show, up from about 19 euros in the first procurement deal but lower than the previously agreed $28.50 because the order had grown, the report said, citing one official close to the matter.

The European Commission said on Tuesday that the EU is on course to hit a target of fully vaccinating at least 70% of the adult population by the end of the summer.

In May, the EU said it expects to have received more than a billion doses of vaccines by the end of September from four drugmakers.

Pfizer and Moderna were not immediately available for comment to Reuters. ($1 = 0.8425 euros)

Overhead... etc. and AstraZeneca (made by the UK) is about $4 per dose. That’s why Germany (who make Pfizer) @ $20+ per dose, and Moderna @ $20+ per dose and the European media played up the two or three blood clot cases caused by AZ... Germany is still pissed that the UK left the European Union.

Apparently, the AstraZeneca shots will also require ‘no’ booster shot... The mRNA shots will likely require boosters every year.

In the end there can be only one, and based on figures released so far the non mRNA vaccines are winning. The best one in the end may be the Novavax vaccine. The mRNA vaccines work great.... For about 6 months... Then you need that booster shot. Booster shots are not an option in third world regions, where 1 or 2 doses will work better.

AstraZeneca - 3 billion doses (non mRNA)
Novavax - 1.4 billion doses (non mRNA)
Pfizer - 1.2 billion doses (mRNA)
Moderna - 816 million doses (mRNA)

Some years ago I had my first hip replacement.Purely out of curiosity I asked the finance department for a detailed breakdown on the their bill to the insurance company.

The thing that stood out was that they billed Blue Cross $17,000 for the hip...just the hip,not the surgeon's fee,or the OR time,or the anesthesiologist or the nights spent, etc.

IIRC titanium isn't cheap...but $17K?
