Florida breaks record for COVID-19 hospitalizations

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — A day after it recorded the most new daily cases since the start of the pandemic, Florida on Sunday broke a previous record for current hospitalizations, as the number of patients in hospitals because of COVID-19 once again broke through the 1,000-person threshold.

The Sunshine State had 10,207 people hospitalized with confirmed COVID-19 cases, according to data reported to the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services.

The previous record was from more than a year ago, July 23, 2020, more than a half-year before vaccinations started becoming widespread, when Florida had 10,170 hospitalizations, according to the Florida Hospital Association.

Florida is now leading the nation in per capita hospitalizations for COVID-19, as hospitals around the state report having to put emergency room visitors in beds in hallways and others document a noticeable drop in the age of patients.

In the past week, Florida has averaged 1,525 adult hospitalizations a day, and 35 daily pediatric hospitalizations. Both are the highest per capita rate in the nation, according to Jason Salemi, an associate professor of epidemiology at the University of South Florida.

Florida’s CoupFlu dashboard is an almighty PITA to use, no matter which version, but the data I saw a few minutes ago says this article is BS...

Speaking of DeSantis...

Gov, simply the damn dashboard. It is a time consuming, frustrating, PITA to use.

“How many in the hospital are vaxxed? For some reason that number is hard to find.”

Here’s the odd thing about that. I got the flu inoculation last year at Costco, but my doctor knew all about it. Doubtless, that’s due to the level of computerization of medical records required by the if-you-like-your-doctor-you-can-keep-your-doctor legislation passed during Obama’s term. This implies that comparing who is hospitalized for Covid vs. who is fully “immunized” vs who has one shot, vs who has had no shots is a matter of a quick data sort. My understanding is that Sweden, the only advanced economy to continue as normal vs. lockdown, is over the pandemic. But the rest of the world is still in panic with the need to “flatten the curve.” We’re now hundreds of weeks into the three week long flatten-the-curve requirement.

So, what conclusion would I draw from this? The information is clearly available, but is not being disseminated. I am guessing that the information would embarrass somebody. Let me think. Which group in our political structure is the most sensitive to being wrong? Could it be the ones who always tell everyone they are the smartest in any room?

As a side note. I have been honored throughout my career to attend meetings that included men who had published papers and were acknowledged as leaders in their field. I have sat in meetings with men who held numerous patents. Not one time did any of these men attempt to tell us how smart they were. Yet every Democrat seems to advertise their alleged intelligence. Me thinks they protest too much.

The most popular govenor is one of the best ran states has the worst outbreak, meaning NY and Michigan must have the lowest death rates. Funny how Texas that Abbott has allowed so many illegals isn’t in the lead.

PCR cycles have been turned up that give 97% positives.

They are not reliable. The PCR test inventor said it should never be turned up over 17 or it gives false positives. Earlier this summer is was 36 cycles per the CDC and the numbers went down.

Now the CDC recommends 45 cycles per the delta (Covid 19 from India) variant. Hence, all the higher numbers. The think is how is Covid 19 still around a year and half later? Viruses are seasonal.

Just as important, how many wore masks (in the car, around inside the house, to bed etc.?)and maintained the one size fits all (anti)social distancing?

DeSantis, did you know about this...

Federal PREP Act Liability Protections for COVID-19 Vaccination

Answer: The Federal PREP Act provides liability protection to local health departments and their employees for “Recommended Activities” associated with “Covered Countermeasures” such as administering FDA-authorized vaccines. The “sole exception” to the PREP Act’s liability protection is for death or injury caused by a Covered Person’s willful misconduct. Absent willful misconduct, an injured party’s only remedy is to seek compensation through the Countermeasures Injury Compensation Program (CICP). Thus, the Federal PREP Act provides liability protection to local health departments and their employees for prescribing and administering FDA-authorized COVID-19 vaccines as well as for supervising and administering COVID-19 vaccination programs....

Hospitals have more than a year to prepare for any “surge.”

There shouldn’t be any problem.

It’s also hard or impossible to find how many are severely ill, how many in ICU, average ICU stay, number of deaths, etc. You know, the important little details.

I just checked the vaccination rates by state, and Florida is far from the worst. It has the 23rd highest rate of partially vaccinated (57%), and is tied for the 23rd highest fully vaccinated rate (48%). Many states ahead of it are ahead by only a few percentage points in both categories.

So something else must be behind this unique and extremely high rate of new infections, hospitalizations, and deaths. What is it? Age? Ethnicity? Climate? Are the numbers being fudged to hurt DeSantis? What?

You got sauce for that?

As the rest of your post so elegantly explained it, does the CDC not realize that they are no longer dealing with a bunch of rubes but people who are learning the ins and outs of covid testing.

The game's up!

That’s because the hastily erected crematoria are working overtime.

I live in the Tampa area. Went to church this morning. Everyone everywhere I see is going about life as normal. There is ZERO evidence that we are in any kind of public health emergency.

The "something else" is pure hysterical propaganda as the left is desperate to restart covid panic.

It ain't happening here.
