The Illinois Property Tax Appeal Board has decided former President Donald Trump is due a $1 million refund on his skyscraper’s 2011 tax bill, ruling last month that the Cook County Board of Review overestimated the value of the building’s hotel rooms and retail space.
But the Cook County State’s Attorney has filed suit with the Illinois Appellate Court, seeking to block the tax refund, which has yet to be issued.
If Trump ends up with the tax refund, it would come out of property taxes due to the city of Chicago and eight other government agencies, including Chicago Public Schools, which stands to lose the biggest chunk of money, about $540,000.
It’s the latest twist in the case originally filed by Ald. Edward M. Burke, whose law firm argued Cook County officials had over-assessed Trump’s skyscraper.

And just what is the amount of refunds given every year.
I wont be happy until I hear the screams from these stinking communists when a red-hot poker is jammed up their nether regions...
If he actually deserves the refund , and doesn’t get it, he should ‘Wyatt’s Torch’ everything he owns in Illinois.
Let them enjoy the NO taxes he pays there anymore.

I like the way you think.
If the building didn’t have Trump’s name on it this refund would have already been issued and you’d never hear a word about it.

Good. It wouldn't be that big of a problem if those who run the City of Chicago had any clue as how to run a government.
I hope Trump is also getting interest on that debt. This is a refund from 2011.

You know that kinda kills his ability to make money off the property he still holds morgages on. All he needs to do is sue them for fraud, and demand 10 times the damage.
While traveling through the Ill State on occasion, I strongly tend to NEVER buy anything there [gas, lodging, food] so as to short them on tax revenue.
I don’t know how this Works guy is getting away with all this. He’s never really seen in the mainstream media. No interviews, nothing!
Pay the man you corrupt goons.
Talk about a Catch 22! I agree with others, he should sell all his property and invest in Florida and Texas! No more property tax from Trump!
Government demands you fork over YOUR money
When its discovered government makes a mistake and took more than legally allowed, they won’t give it back
Well they over charged Trump. They don’t want to give it back. That is a major felony theft. The officals need to be charged as such.
Damn autocorrect! Meant Soros guy
So many idiots thought “Trump only paid $750 in taxes” while completely ignoring he overpaid by millions.
You’re right. That’s what they get for listening to the fake news media.
If the refund is due then it’s due. Illinois can’t refuse to pay it just because it’s Trump.
Because “he has enough money” as a liberal would say.
Every 5 years, when the county reassesses my property I always review market transactions for similar properties and file an appeal. Every time I have done so I’ve seen my assessment lowered. Most citizens don’t appeal and have to pay higher taxes than they should as a result.
The amounts I have saved over the past 20 years are significant. One year the assessment was rolled back over $100,000 A very nice return on the investment of 3 hours of my time. The research is easy since Salinger price data for properties is public and available free from the county on the internet.
I’m sure Trump has an army of accountants and attorneys to file his appeals. However, this is a process a little guy can win without hiring lawyers and accountants. Just takes a little time.
