It seems to me that the purpose of renewed mask mandates is to apply more pressure on the unvaccinated to get the jab. They’ve tried everything else including bribes, and the vaccination rate hasn’t budged much. So now, they reinstitute the mask “guidance” and imply that this is necessary because so many remain unvaccinated. It’s illogical, but not many take the time to think it through. Instead, they blame their unvaccinated neighbor for their “having” to wear a mask again. Bribes failed. Let’s try peer pressure.
I think considerably less people than stated have gotten the vax. I believe the total number the government is using is doses paid for. the US has bought millions and millions of doses, many of which are going unused.
