Ellzey isn’t a “Never-Trumper”. He’s a State Representative with a Conservative voting record. He had the support of Rick Perry and Joe Barton who represented this area for years. He also ran for and almost won this seat outright on his own.
He also raised a million dollars more than Wright.

3. Hardly anyone voted. 78000 votes in the primary. Less than 40000 votes in the general. Wright won 15000 votes in the primary, and got 18000
Votes in the general. Ellzey got 10000 votes in the primary and 20000 in the general. Harrison, Castro, Wood and Ballantine (Republicans) had more than 18000 votes between them. Their voters alone would be more than Ellzeys addition.
