They were using it to test for Covid-19 and it was picking up influenza as well. No, of course it wasn't picking up influenza and saying it was Covid.
Where did you get that idea?

From the article:
The CDC announced, albeit quietly, on Wednesday that the RT-PCR tests used to tell millions of Americans they’re infected with Covid-19 has been unable to accurately differentiate between the various coronaviruses. Of particular note is the inability of these tests to know whether someone is infected with Covid-19 or influenza.
It was supposed to tell you whether you had Covid-19 or not--and only that--and it couldn't do it. It conflated other coronaviruses as Covid-19 and could not distinguish between Covid-19 and influenza. If you were sick with the flu (and only the flu) and took the test, it should register negative for covid, right? But deaths from the flu were supposedly at near-zero levels last year. That tells me the EUA test used for determining whether a patient had Covid-19 or not was inaccurate at best and deliberately misused at worst. JMHO.
