The CDC website states, which is in the OP: "consider adoption of a multiplexed method that can facilitate detection and differentiation of SARS-CoV-2 and influenza viruses."
There would be no reason whatsoever to make that distinction, if there weren't issues.
Notice, they didn't say, detections and differentiation of SARS-CoV-2 and Shingles? Or SARS-CoV-2 and Rhinovirus? Or SARS-CoV-2 and...[any other] virus?
"Multiplex" pathogen testing was around before covid-19.

Yet...the CDC stated that they were giving this advanced notice to the clinical laboratories to :
consider adoption of a multiplexed method that can facilitate detection and differentiation of SARS-CoV-2 and influenza viruses.
Specifically, covid vs flu and no other combination.
They had a problem, but the praetorian guard media and govt functionaries will never let the public know. It will take a whistleblower/leak for the data to become public.
Hear! Hear! Well reasoned!
Of course they won't.
Good Lord.
"CDC will withdraw the request to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) of the CDC 2019-Novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV) Real-Time RT-PCR Diagnostic Panel, the assay first introduced in February 2020 for detection of SARS-CoV-2 only."
So they rushed out an assay in February 2020 because of the urgency of the blossoming pandemic.
Since they rushed it out it only detected Covid-19 and wasn't intended to be a broad test identifying multiple pathogens.
Since much broader assays, including those that detect influenza virus and others, are now available they're recommending people update their processes.
So of course the credulous anti Covid-vaxxes think they've hit on the big conspiracy-buster piece of evidence that will show this has been just the flu all along.
Pathetic.
