Too many “all stars” and not enough role players. That is what Kevin Love would have brought to the team.

I didn't watch the game, but I suspect that it was a lot like most "all star" teams - they didn't practice together enough to become a team. The US would have probably done better with just picking up a team which lost in the NBA tournament and playing them as the Olympic team.

This was likely the secret sauce behind the 1980 Olympic hockey team win. That was not a collection of NHL superstars on a two-week "vacation" but a real team of motivated amateurs (kids just out of high school) put together by the late Herb Brooks and they practiced together for months and months. A true team.

I didn’t watch either, but my understanding is that a few of the players didn’t even join the rest of the squad until literally just days ago due to the NBA playoffs, so yes, I’d say it’s likely that there hasn’t been near enough practice as a team.
