Sounds like IEEE was calculating total heating value of the fuel transferred, not the mechanical work being transferred, which is what I calculated by multiplying by the mechanical efficiency of the engine and power train.

To an order of magnitude, it makes no difference. The Tesla is probably okay as long as you don’t need to travel more than 300 miles in a day, and you have a recharging facility available.

I wouldn’t even think of taking one on a long trip. They will never replace ICE for long haul trucking and railroads.

What did our grandkids read by before candles? Electricity.
