Alone among the advanced countries of the world, Sweden followed the sensible policy for dealing with a highly transmissible virus with a 99%+ survival rate, dangerous mostly to easily identifiable groups – the elderly and those with co-morbidities. It allowed the population at minimal risk to carry on life as usual, and restricted movements and otherwise protected only those at elevated risk. As the rest of the advanced world locked down, life for almost all Swedes went on as normal.
The result: herd immunity spread. Sweden’s economy avoided the catastrophic harm inflicted elsewhere.
And now we see that Sweden’s approach (which, incidentally, is how all previous pandemics have been handled) has been vindicated. John Miltimore writes for the Foundation for Economic Education:
In contrast to its European neighbors, Sweden is welcoming tourists. Businesses and schools are open with almost no restrictions. And as far as masks are concerned, not only is there no mandate in place, Swedish health officials are not even recommending them.
What are the results of Sweden’s much-derided laissez-faire policy? Data show the 7-day rolling average for COVID deaths yesterday was zero (see below). As in nada. And it’s been at zero for about a week now.
While many nations are gearing up for more lockdowns, daily deaths in Sweden are still at 0.

Sweden’s overall mortality rate in 2020 was lower than most of Europe and its economy suffered far less. Meanwhile, today Sweden is freer and healthier than virtually any other country in Europe.

sweden is hated by every leftist
RE: sweden is hated by every leftist
Not by Bernie Sanders though. He touts the Welfare System of this country as something the USA should emulate.
Bioweapon gonna bioweapon. This has been there lull in the calendar. Check back toward the end of October if a uptick.
RE: Check back toward the end of October if a uptick.
Oh, I’m sure there will be an uptick. Covid will be with us forever, just as the Spanish Flu and Hong Kong flu viruses are.
The question is this — what should be our overall approach to dealing with this reality?
OPEN and LOCKDOWN, OPEN and LOCKDOWN and repeat the cycle forever? Or follow the Swedish approach?
At least Sweden could do it, even if we couldn't.
Live with it or stay scared. Even the Swedes locked down at times. People need to try to limit comorbidities, don’t be fat, don’t smoke and improve their health. Winter will bring these numbers up again, that is life.
with its corp tax rate of 15%. yes they have a large welfare state which the individual pays for with tax rates of 30/60%.

I’m good with selectively quarantining the old and weak and those with morbid health conditions.
But the rest of us have lives to live and there is no evidence to show that locking down the entire economy prevents deaths.
The world lived with the Spanish flu under worse conditions when it came to medical technology, the world can do the same for Covid.
We pay more in total social welfare than does Sweden.
Sweden left it to individuals to decide to lockdown, put on masks or whatever. They never arrested and jailed anybody because they did not out on masks or they went to visit friends and family, like blue state governors like Whitmar, DeBlasio etc did.
Yup.
Hopefully serious, and honest, researchers here and in Europe will compile a minutely detailed analysis of the stats for this virus...including Sweden’s (and ours of course). Of course if that does happen the results won’t get a bit of coverage here,in Europe,or anywhere else!
Not THAT succesful - the muslims are still there
bkmk
Take a look also at Ukraine.
It has among the lowest vaccination rate of all Europe.
It allowed foreigners to enter with only a test within 3 days of entry, no quarantine.
Death rate is rock bottom. Case growth is really tiny.
