Not to be confrontational, but we had that situation here for a long time. It was called your Draft Card. Under federal law, you had to carry your Draft Card with you at all times. We were told early on to make sure to always have that in your wallet, because a favorite tactic of the police to hassle you was to ask you to produce your Draft Card, and if you didn’t have it they would give you a hard time or even arrest you.
Burning your Draft Card was viewed as a direct challenge to the government, which is why it became a thing during the Vietnam War.
