Construction in Washington, D.C. commenced Monday to make Black Lives Matter Plaza a permanent installation in the nation’s capital.
D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser and the District Department of Transportation announced the plans Friday, reminding the public to expect lane closures.
Sixteenth Street NW between H and K Streets will be closed to through traffic while sidewalks will remain open to pedestrians and local access to businesses will be maintained, DDOT said.

Fashions change with time, and future generations will look at these “monuments” as curiosities at best, and simply forgotten as to its meaning altogether. When did Cape Canaveral become Cape Kennedy, and has not the name largely reverted today?
“BLM” could as easily be taken to stand for “Bureau of Land Management”, now part of the Department of Interior, and have nothing to do with some obscure offshoot of “Black Panthers”.

Washington, D.C. is the most *legitimate* use for eminent domain that exists. That is, President Trump and a Republican congress should ED all privately owned land in the district.
The district is only 61 square miles, less the space used by the foreign embassies there, and of course the space used by existing government structures and a quarter of the land which is used for “road infrastructure.”
If the entire district is federal, the worthless government there is gone, crime drops a lot, the decrepit infrastructure can be substantially upgraded, and far more citizens can visit the place.
And it screws up the traffic around the mall, capitol building and White House even more.

Not sure but there’s a “People With AIDS Plaza” near city hall.
Right; some of us will live our lives in the broad swaths of this country with Columbus statues, while others will remain penned in the ghettoes with BLM murals, George Floyd statues, etc..
I honestly appreciate the very public warning signs for blacks and non-blacks alike that they are crossing into unsafe wild zones when they see these markers.
