Dr. Anthony Fauci Supports Calls To Mask Up Children

Please remember that this is the same Dr. Fauci that let his mail sit for overnight and then opened it, or washed his hands with soap and water, THEN used Purell and then let the groceries sit::

“In the late afternoon or evening, when I’m finished with the White House, I go shopping for groceries, or to drugstores. I don’t disinfect the bags. In general, I will take the materials out of the bags, then wash my hands with soap and water, and then use Purell, and let everything sit for a day.”

and regarding mail:

“... but now I just bring the mail in, wash my hands, then let it lie around for a day or two before I open it.”

And this was AFTER research strongly suggested that getting COVID from or shopping was very low.

Some FReepers also took some of these steps along with washing food packages where appropriate, along with criticizing people who did not stay on their own property, or even went out for a drive during last spring and summer. The fear that some of these FReepers generated on the old COVID threads was disappointing. Thankfully, several of them rarely post on FR any longer.

I believe that masks prevent transmission of COVID-19. There, I said it. If you feel compelled to answer, please do not cite experiments in particle size, I've worked through all that.

HOWEVER.

It's one thing to say that a nurse should wear a mask for fifteen minutes to administer medication to a COVID patient on hi-flow oxygen who is coughing, or that you should wear a mask for an hour in a bar in Bergamo in February 2020.

It's quite another thing to say children should breathe through paper or plastic for hours at a time, for months or years, in a completely un-studied intervention. with regard to the function of ciliated respiratory epithelial cells and alveolar gas exchange.

It's not that we know it's unsafe. It's not that we know that their lung physiology will be permanently changed prior to reaching adult size and VO_2.

It's that we have NO FLIPPING IDEA about those things, and the intervention (protecting children) is excessive given the nature of COVID-19 in children.
