John Burton (D-CA) is one they might not want to have used since Burton and his brother Phil, and wife Sala, were hardcore reds, esp. supporting the Communist Party USA (CPUSA). They showed up in TOCSIN, them COMBAT newsletters in the mid-60’s onwards.
It would not have surprised me to find out that they were covert members of the CPUSA, along with several other key Democrat Representatives over time(i.e, George Miller, Ron Dellums, possibly Maxine Waters - her record is interesting, and a few others, including the present Rep. Judy Chu (D-CA), once a key member of the Maoist “Communist Workers Party”, a support front for the Red Chinese.

I see they’re actually part of a Colorado-based splinter of Three Percenters called Three Percenter United Patriots, or 3UP, which is a group founded by Mike Morris that grew in tandem with Black Lives Matter under Obama. According to the indictment, they tried to recruit other Three Percenters as well as the Proud Boys.

Rogers, previously an American Canyon resident, owned British Auto Repair of the Napa Valley since 2013. According to Copeland’s Facebook profile, he attended high school in Kentucky but prosecutors said he has lived in California since 2007. Copeland’s LinkedIn profile lists that he was a mechanic in Rogers’ shop from 2011-2014. After that, he joined the U.S. Army and was arrested for desertion in 2014 and 2016, when he was discharged, according to court records. After his discharge he joined the Three Percenters. Most recently, his LinkedIn profile says Copeland worked in sales for Snap-On Incorporated, which sells high-end tools and equipment
While the two have been affiliated with Three Percenters for years, the indictment alleges that they planned violence in direct response to the 2020 election. Using encrypted communications, they started planning attacks late in 2020, when Rogers texted Copeland, “Ok bro we need to hit the enemy in the mouth,” and Copeland responded “Yeah so we punch soros,” apparently referring to billionaire George Soros, who frequently funds progressive political campaigns. Rogers said, “I think right now we attack democrats.”. . .
Copeland tried to recruit help from other Three Percenters and the Proud Boys, another far-right group, according to court records. Investigators found evidence he had submitted a form on the Proud Boys’ website in late 2020.”
In 2013, Mike Morris, a Marine veteran and IT manager from Colorado, co-founded a militia group called Three Percent United Patriots (3UP). This armed faction was an offshoot of the larger three percenter movement, which sprung up after the election of President Barack Obama. The movement’s members take their name from the belief that just 3 percent of American colonists were responsible for overthrowing the British in the Revolutionary War, and that it will take 3 percent of today’s Americans to bring about the “restoration of the Founders’ Republic.” Today, 3UP is likely the largest militia in the country, with active branches in more than a dozen states. Morris says membership “exploded” after the Black Lives Matter protests in Ferguson, Missouri, in 2014. He boasts that the Colorado branch now has 3,400 members.
After months of training undercover with militias in California, earlier this year I traveled to southern Arizona to join 3UP’s Operation Spring Break. At least twice a year, militia members from around the country set up a heavily armed base in the Arizona desert and patrol the US-Mexico border for people entering the country illegally. Morris, also known as Fifty Cal, runs the operations, planning daytime and nighttime missions from his Kodiak trailer in the “forward operating base.” When I first met Morris, he only knew me as a low-ranking militia member. I later caught up with him, told him I was a journalist, and asked for an interview.
