I would think if that happened, Poland might move into Western Ukraine, and reclaim Lwów, as it was historically Polish. It just might open up a Pandora’s Box, that could lead to trouble all around.

Excellent article...
Excellent post...
Excellent historical review...
Excellent writer, that Vlad...
He’s a man!
(Albeit a former stinking communist KGB official)

Been a long time (1980’s) since the U.S. had a “man” in charge...

Whatever else you can say about Putin, it might be instructive to first determine which country’s citizens have the most religious, taxation, and speech freedom:
France?
Canada?
Germany?
USSA?
Russia?

There are many aspects of the ultimate fall of the Soviet Republic that can be seen in other former Republics, IMHO...

When Ukraine chose to rely on US & UK guarantees of their sovereignty rather then the nuclear weapons they inherited from the collapse of the USSR they chose their fate. That is to be absorbed back into the greater Russian state. I think Putin wants to cobble back together the borders of 1914 Russia.

That might a good idea, since Western Ukrainians are not Russian! Only a minority them are even Orthodox. [However, many of their relatives who immigrated to America became Orthodox, and even claimed Russian (or Russian-American) nationality!]

Good point dfwgator. Yet the “Mothet Russia” complex borders on paranoia, justified in history by Napoleon and Hitler.

I even heard once in the past that Putin proposed Poland could get Western Ukraine.

But Poles would never make deals with Putin.

Very timely given that yesterday, July 15, was the New Calendar Commemoration of Vladimir, Equal-to-the-Apostles of Kiev:

Commemoration of Vladimir, Equal-to-the-Apostles of Kiev

Orthodox Ping!

Save Thy people, O Lord,
and bless Thine inheritance.
Grant victory to Thy Church over her enemies,
and protect Thy people by Thy Holy Cross!

Regardless of what one thinks of Russia or Ukraine (not that one in ten-thousand Americans know the fine historical details of Russian-Ukraine history, myself included) this is an important document.

This is a manifesto or policy statement which will guide Russian policy long into the future.

You can equate it to Deng Xiao-ping’s “one China, two systems” policy declaration of 1979, for Hong Kong and specifically, Taiwan.

Mine was from western Ukraine and emigrated in the early 1900’s before WWI and the Communist Revolution.

There was nothing left to go back to so she stayed here.

From the article,….

“ Stalin and other party members had ordered that kulaks were “to be liquidated as a class”[18] and so they became a target for the state. The richer, land-owning peasants were labeled “kulaks” and were portrayed by the Bolsheviks as class enemies, which culminated in a Soviet campaign of political repressions, including arrests, deportations, and executions of large numbers of the better-off peasants and their families in 1929–1932.[19]”

Sound familiar or what?

The federal government itself won’t do it themselves in our case.

They’ll have the illegals, BLM, and Antifa do it for them.

All I know is, a heck of a lot more Ukrainians have fled to Poland, than they have to Russia.

Then you know nothing...no surprise here.

However, Russia and Ukraine need to move toward unity, in the spirit of Orthodox Brotherhood

Greatest threat to Russian-Ukrainian unity is Putin who destroyed it forever. A generation of Ukrainians have been raised knowing only Russia as the aggressor state in a war.

This policy statement only matters until Putin is carried feet first from the Kremlin.

To paraphrase LBJ: We are not about to send American boys 9 or 10,000 miles away from home to do what Ukrainian boys ought to be doing for themselves,”

Trump didn't send "American boys". He sent Javelin missiles to allow Ukrainian boys to kill Ruskies. Ukrainians want weapons.

In March 2018, Trump approved the $47 million sale of 210 Javelin anti-tank missiles and 37 launchers to Ukraine. The missiles were the first lethal military assistance provided to Ukraine by the United States in its fight against Russian-supported separatists in eastern Ukraine since that fighting began in 2014.

The First Battle of Donetsk Airport was a conflict between separatist insurgents associated with the Donetsk People's Republic and Ukrainian government forces that took place at Donetsk International Airport on 26–27 May 2014, as part of the war in Donbas that began after the 2014 Ukrainian revolution.

It wasn't the Russians who destroyed it.

It wasn't the Russians who destroyed it.

Putin and his green men started the conflict and have continually armed and supported the war with weapons and men. There would be NO war in Donbas without Putin's meddling.
