The US kept the military in Afghanistan on a short leash. Could not bomb Mosques where the Afghanis plot their operations. Remember when the US fights its own, they go all out. Sherman's March to the sea utterly devastated the south. Don't forget the Bonus Army. They were pushed out of Washington by MacArthur and Patton.
