Erik Finman, the self-proclaimed "Bitcoin millionaire," has launched a new smartphone designed to fight back against Big Tech companies by promoting free speech and security.
The Freedom Phone comes with its own app store, which will feature apps that are blocked or banned by Apple and Google, although the details haven't yet been given. It has already been endorsed by conservative commentator Candace Owens.
"I just did a live on Instagram taking everyone through the new FREEDOM PHONE which is now trending," she tweeted on Wednesday night...
The handset has been described as a "free speech and privacy first" phone, according to the company's website. The Freedom Phone comes with preloaded apps, which according to the website include "some of the most popular banned and unbanned conservative sites and apps."
The Freedom Phone will also have its own app store with the website stating that customers will be allowed to "read what you like, watch what you like, think what you like" as "nothing is censored."
However, details on which apps the store will feature remain thin on the ground for the time being.…

Somehow this “article” seems a lot like those “news” stories and anecdotes that Rush Limbaugh used to tell live on his show, that turned out to be not so cleverly disguised ads.

This comes to mind
It’s still a Linux/Android based phone with a different app store. “FreedomOS” is just a different distro. Good for them, but it will be susceptible to the same attack vectors as any Android phone. I’ll stick with Apple until they iron out the bugs.
How secure is this Freedom Phone?
Will it be more secure than Parler was from Google or other more established service providers?
If Big Phone doesn’t want the competition, they can make it hard for a start up phone company to do business. I could see Apple making certain phone apps that will not work on a Freedom Phone, just to hobble new business prospects or basic utility.
The new NSA will just send a virus to it.
Is it worse than that? Is the FreedomOS based on OxygenOS?

And is OxygenOS a dodgy OS based on Android from a dodgy Chinese company (the OnePlus subsidiary of Oppo) that has been caught using the OS to, what else, but suck private phone info back to servers in China?

if they forked the android distro and are using their own developers then its not necessarily a bad thing, but I am not certain android is entirely open source, which means that they are still beholden to google on some level. IF android IS entirely open source then this has possibilities since that would mean no more google data theft, tracking, sharing that data with the letter agencies, etc. Another thought that occurs is that even though this is separated from google and apple, the NSA has asserted themselves\itself in the past on other opensource programs and either backdoored them or caused them to shut down- for example, TruCrypt was a full disk encryption platform that was considered by most security people to be nigh unbreakable... and then the developers got a letter from the NSA and without explaining the contents of the letter, shut the program down entirely. Could be that the NSA pointed out a flaw in their encryption that broke the platform, but more likely to me was that the NSA said put a back door in for us or we’ll make your lives hell.
So... yeah, hard to get your mind around whether this is a worthwhile spend, or not.
TruCrypt was interesting in that it had a mechanism built into it where, if you installed and configured it in a very specific way, it would essentially self destruct the data if the proper keys were not entered in a limited number of tries. At that point, the disk would essentially erase itself in a manner that made the data irretrievable.
So, where are these phones manufactured?
FBI headquarters in VA.
“FBI headquarters in VA”
Well, I’m glad to see that we can still build SOMETHING in this country.
The fearful pessimism about the phone — and other attempts to play offense — on FR is one reason why conservatives keep losing. Bet some of the pessimists are leftist trolls. FR’s management needs to put a check on this.
Zero specs listed for the phone.
Camera? Storage? Processor? Anything?
looks like people looking into it have identified it as a “Umigami A9 Pro”, a chinese knockoff phone that costs 119 dollars that they are marking up to 500 and putting in an os called freedomos that looks like you can download yourself, and just filling it with apps that you can put on your phone yourself

so if you want to be spied on by the chinese and candace owens be my guest!!!
Candace... hmmm... I wouldn’t mind. But, she’s married now so that would complicate things.
I poked around a bit more and found the same info as you. Mediocre phone and a lot of vaporware.
