Wait a minute. The US is the only place on earth from which supplies can be obtained? The US is the only foreign country that a country can do business with?
But I thought the US was a greedy capitalist exploiter. Shouldn’t Cuba celebrate the lack of business with the US? After all, this means their people have not been exploited at all.

As a matter of fact, it was Castro who originally started economic war with the US. US originally supported Castro as there was general disgust with Battista rule.
It was Castro who first nationalized US property in Cuba and put major duties on imports from the US.
No wonder that US eventually responded with similar measures.
That was when Castro was still revolutionary and believed in success of communism.
It was later, when it started to be obvious, that the communism is not the panacea as advertised, that Castro started using US as straw man to blame for his problems.
