It’s certainly a test for this new Cuban leader, if he’s weak, things can change very quickly.
Things will also change quickly if he starts shooting. He’s not a romantic figure like Fidel was. Just the head bureaucrat.
DeTocqueville says that the only way you can consistently sway the people and make them accept centralized administration is if you govern as a religious or semi-religious movement. Otherwise, things fall apart sooner or later.
Fidel’s personality cult was the religious aspect of Cuban communism. He’s gone. His brother Raul is not Fidel, any more than Isabel Peron was Eva Peron. This new guy, whatever his name is, is doubly not Fidel. No personality cult, and you’re left with nothing but unjustifiable tyranny and privations.
Capitalism will return to Cuba like a ripe apple falling from a tree. It’s only a matter of time.
Does anyone here know if Bernie and AOC have made statements?
Heard they had not.
If they denounce the freedom seekers they look bad (which they are) in order to stand up for Marxism.
If they call for US military intervention to help the freedom seekers they will enrage their Marxist handlers and funding sources behind he scenes.
This requires integrity and honesty-—which AOC and Bernie lack big time.
