SYDNEY, July 12 – The prospect of an extended lockdown in Sydney loomed on Monday as Australian health officials reported yet another record daily rise in COVID-19 cases for the year, fuelled by the highly infectious Delta variant.
New South Wales state reported 112 new locally transmitted COVID-19 cases, almost all in Sydney, despite the country’s biggest city entering its third week of lockdown. Case numbers have been at record levels for at least three days.
There was, however, a glimmer of light as the number of newly-infected people who were out in the community while infectious dropped to 34 from 45 on Sunday.
State Premier Gladys Berejiklian said the progress of that figure in coming days would determine whether Sydney’s lockdown, due to end on Friday, would be extended.

Now the symptoms of covid are headache and sniffles.
So literally, the common cold.
Middle of winter in Australia. How is their vaccination rate? How does this bode for the US this winter?
The vaccine is working as expected with the delta variant wiping out the vaccinated at higher numbers.
Lockdowns because 34 people got the flu….define stupid….

It works when you have a stupid, easily scared public. I’m amazed at the number of people who think the government should protect them, always. They seem to think that no one should ever be exposed to anything harmful, ever.
I am under the belief that ‘they’ expect everyone will catch covid sooner or later. The vaccines don’t stop infection or spread they just reduce the risk of severe infection - for some indeterminate period of time. We’ll get to zero covid maybe in a few years after nearly everyone has been previously infected... less the few who somehow avoided it.

I finally found my new password to log in, but I see your comment which is what I was going to mention as well. No deaths. All panic for control. Disgusting. People should be locked up, but not the ones who are being ‘locked away for their own protection’ but the ones in charge. Criminals.

But we never get to zero influenza. There are a lot of strains and all of them are mutating all the time.
I figure the same will be true of COVID.
