It will be interesting to see just how Oakland’s Mayor Libby decides to blame whites or conservatives or ‘the rich’ for this virtual battlefield.

Oakland can stop these shootings with higher taxes, open borders, fewer law enforcement, empty prisons, and (of course) green investments.

It will take many years but the murder attrition rate may, eventually, kill all of the people in Oakland.
I am not for this possibility just pointing out that it

My daughter lived on Bay Farm Island. I used the Lake Merritt BART station to get to and from SFO. It is a depressing place and, as long as you mind your business, look straight ahead and talk to no one, you are OK.

Bart does nothing to control the beggars. All appear to be fit for work of some kind.
The donors only encourage the continuation of panhandling.
Ha! I just saw that movie. Great picture. I grew up in Oakland and still have family there. Up until the riots last year I was impressed with Oakland’s progress since the 1980’s. On 4th of July weekend they basically shut down access to Lake Merritt which I found to be so sad.
Broadway Street is so much better than it was in my youth with cool restaurants, pubs, and hang outs. It’s a real ‘young people’s city’ now. But, like I said, during the riots a lot of those places got vandalized and destroyed…. I just don’t feel as safe as I used to only a year ago.
I come from this with a different perspective I suppose. I absolutely love Oakland, but am constantly disappointed with the leadership letting down the public. My experience is that Oaklanders of all colors want the police. There are way too many feral kids in Oakland causing deadly harm. The problem is with the culture, not with whitey. But, be heartened. Slowly but surely people of all colors in Oakland are catching on that success is an attitude. I see it. I truly do…. but not after dark. Until there are leaders willing to enforce the laws, encourage education and parenting , and stop blaming whitey and the police. Oakland will struggle.
The issue, at this point, isn’t really the “defunding of the police.” The issue is the “defanging” of the police. I’m in the Bay Area and I’m friends with a number of cops. The attitude they describe among their peers is very much, “I don’t want to be the next Derek Chauvin. If I get in some kind of a dust-up with a black guy, the politicians, media, D.A. and police brass will all gleefully throw me under the bus. So if I see a black male acting suspiciously or driving suspiciously or possibly engaged in criminal activity, I’m going to do my darnedest to look the other way.”
And that’s what’s happening in Oakland, San Francisco, L.A., Chicago, New York and pretty much every major city. The cops have learned the lessons of the past year very well. They’re standing back and standing down with respect to black criminality. And we’re seeing the results in the urban homicide counts nationwide. This is the world that the politicians, media and D.A.s created with their asinine George Floyd/BLM narrative of the past year.

Dellums - a top Marxist of the Cuban/Grenadian/Soviet type, not to mention his support of Hanoi.
Quan - wasn’t she a mayor or key City Councilwoman? Hardcore red.
Scharf - turned hardcore Marxist over the years.
What is the name of the female mayor whose husband’s first name was Tom? She was a hardcore red. Was it Loni Hancock?
