Brokered, contentious convention. At 3 am to appease all sides, the RNC votes on Kasich for Prez and he has pledged Lisa Murkowski as VP.
Wkikipedia said In 1924 the Dems had a fight over the beloved Dem boosters the KKK:
The party was deeply factionalized with William McAdoo leading the rural/Protestant/Southern faction, and New York Governor Al Smith representing the urban/Catholic/machine element. The Ku Klux Klan was flourishing nationwide and the factions battled over a resolution to condemn the KKK. No compromises seemed possible as the convention dragged on for 17 days, with the balloting for presidential candidate being deadlocked for 103 ballots until dark horse John W. Davis, a neutral figure, was nominated.
The Dem Party remained deeply divided on the KKK issue.
Interesting take, I like the concept behind it. The only fly in the ointment is how differently parties are run these days.
Every 4 years, same chorus
“It’s going to be a brokered convention.”
