The WerteUnion (Values Union) was founded in 2017 by members of Angela Merkel’s Christian Democrat Union (CDU) who believed that Germany’s last big-tent party had moved too far left.
The movement followed a similar path to that of the Tea Party, which emerged in 2009 within the US’s Republican Party, bringing together libertarians and right-wing populists focused on challenging the leadership of the Republican Party, which they felt wasn’t doing enough to confront Democratic President Barack Obama.
In contrast, the WerteUnion focused its ire within the center-right CDU on Chancellor Angela Merkel, whom adherents saw as being too liberal. Expansion of day care that challenged the conservative family model, the end of military conscription, and first and foremost Merkel’s open policy on migration led some German conservatives to believe they had lost control of their party. “We wanted to reverse the left-wing course that Merkel undertook,” Alexander Mitsch, the WerteUnion’s former chair and a founding member, told DW. That number pales in comparison to the CDU’s overall 400,000 members and the CSU’s 140,000. We can be honest and note that DW is simply an extension of ARD/ZDF (public TV in Germany) and has a general biased position on things.
As for WerteUnion, as much as they’ve tried to influence the outcome of change within the CDU, it’s been more or less a failure. I think nationally, their group might have around 5,000 members (more or less).
Laschet (the CDU Chancellor candidate) has pretty good odds now of winning. His promise (for whatever value it is)....is that Merz ends up as Finance Minister. Presently, lot of chatter going on about how a coalition can be built....whether the SPD or Greens will be the partner...or if they might attempt a minority government.
I have no confidence in the Germans. They will never muster the political will to save themselves. That would require shutting the border to 3rd worlders and deporting the millions of them who have come as well as casting off Global Socialism and Gaia Worship.
Germans tend to be fine people individually but collectively, they are a complete disaster.

Much the same could be said about America.
America still has a chance. Failing that, large parts of America could break away and be normal sane countries. Germany is utterly hopeless.
